Jayson Tatum and Joe Mazzulla to attend groundbreaking of new Providence education center

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum and head coach Joe Mazzulla will be in Providence this Thursday for the groundbreaking of a new early childhood education center in the Manton Heights neighborhood.

Mazzulla, a Rhode Island native from Johnston and graduate of Bishop Hendricken High School, will join Tatum in celebrating the project.

Celtics team president Rich Gotham and Providence Mayor Brett Smiley are also expected to attend the event, which begins at noon.

The center is scheduled to open in early 2026 and is funded by both the Amica Companies Foundation and the Celtics’ Shamrock Foundation.

This facility will provide early childhood education services and supportive services to children ages 18 months to 5 years old, and their families.
