SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. — Construction crews are on scene for the Matunuck Oyster bar rebuild after the beloved waterfront restaurant was destroyed by a fire back in May.

The blaze, ruled accidental by investigators, left the building a total loss. Due to swift state legislation, the restaurant was able to reopen in July under a large tent across the street, keeping part of its staff working while plans for the new structure moved forward.

Owner Perry Raso says the rebuilt oyster bar will be stronger, safer, and ready to welcome guests back as soon as possible. Until then, the “tent edition” will keep serving fresh local seafood as the community watches a new chapter rise from the ashes.

The oyster farm was first started in 2002 after the owner leased Potter Pond, and in 2009 it opened into what we know today as Matunuck Oyster Bar.
