NEWPORT, R.I. — A Newport hotel death is now the focus of a homicide investigation after authorities said an 85-year-old woman was found dead Monday.
Police said the discovery happened at the Harbor Base Inn after officers arrived at the property while following up on a separate incident involving a 66-year-old man who had reportedly jumped from the Mount Hope Bridge earlier in the day.
During their response, officers entered a hotel room and found Terry Costello, 85, dead inside.
An autopsy later conducted by the Rhode Island State Medical Examiner’s Office determined the death was the result of a homicide, according to authorities.
Few details have been released as investigators continue working to determine exactly what happened.
