WARWICK, R.I. — Rocky Point State Park improvements are set to move forward after $4.4 million in federal funding was secured for upgrades aimed at improving access and traffic flow at the popular waterfront destination.
The funding will support what officials are calling the Rocky Point Gateway Project, which is designed to improve the overall visitor experience while addressing traffic and accessibility concerns around the park.
Planned work includes roadway upgrades, improved pedestrian access, and changes to entrances leading into the park. Officials say the improvements are intended to make it easier and safer for residents and visitors traveling through the area.
Rocky Point State Park has become one of Rhode Island’s most visited public spaces since reopening as a state park, attracting visitors for walking paths, waterfront views, fishing areas, and community events.
Supporters say the investment will help modernize access to the park while preparing for future use and continued growth in visitors.
The funding comes through a federal earmark secured for the project and represents one of the larger recent investments tied to infrastructure improvements at the site.
Officials say the project is expected to improve both traffic conditions and pedestrian safety while enhancing access to one of Rhode Island’s best-known waterfront destinations.
