Providence College women’s basketball advances to Big East quarterfinals

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The No. 7 seed Providence College women’s basketball advanced to the quarterfinals of the Big East Women’s Basketball Tournament after defeating No. 10 seed DePaul Blue Demons women’s basketball, 69-55, on March 6 at Mohegan Sun Arena. PC used a strong offensive performance and key contributions from its top players to secure the victory in the tournament’s opening round.

Sabou Gueye led the Friars with a career high 31 points. The All-BIG EAST First Team selection carried the offense and helped Providence maintain control throughout the game.

Teammate Teneisia Brown also delivered a strong performance. Brown recorded 14 points and 14 rebounds, earning her fourth double-double of the season and providing a major presence on the boards.

The win pushed Providence to 15-17 overall on the season.

With the victory, Providence advances to face No. 2 seed Villanova Wildcats women’s basketball in the quarterfinal round of the Big East Tournament.

The matchup is scheduled for Saturday, March 7 at 7:00 p.m.

Providence will now look to continue its postseason run as it prepares to face one of the tournament’s top seeded teams.
