PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — A manager at a Portsmouth pizzeria was arrested after authorities say he secretly recorded employees in the restaurant’s bathroom.
Michael Boone, 29, faces charges of:
- Video voyeurism
- Unauthorized dissemination of indecent material
Police began their investigation earlier this week after an employee at North End Pizzeria reported suspecting they were being filmed while using the bathroom at work. The employee told police they found a mobile phone positioned in the bathroom in a way that could see activity in the room. Restaurant security footage showed Boone entering the restroom shortly before and after the employee.
Detectives subsequently carried out a search warrant at Boone’s Barkers Lane residence, where they reportedly discovered a cellphone containing evidence.
During questioning, Boone allegedly admitted to placing the hidden camera in the bathroom and later confessed to posting some of the recordings on social media. A search of his phone reportedly revealed footage of the initial employee and a second victim, both recorded without their consent.
North End Pizzeria confirmed Boone has been terminated and stated that the incident occurred in a nonpublic bathroom, so no customers were affected. The business emphasized the importance of maintaining a safe workplace and said it is fully cooperating with law enforcement.
Boone was released on $1,000 surety bail ahead of his formal arraignment, scheduled for Thursday. Police indicated that additional charges may be filed as they continue reviewing the contents of his phone.
