PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Rhode Island has been ranked the second-best state in the U.S. for children’s health care in WalletHub’s 2025 report, which evaluated all 50 states and D.C. across 33 indicators of cost, quality, and access. The state earned high marks for its low rate of uninsured children, affordable out-of-pocket expenses, and strong preventive care, including a vaccination rate of nearly 86% for children aged 19–35 months.

Only 5.6% of residents report difficulty paying their children’s medical bills—the lowest rate in the nation. Rhode Island also ranks second in the number of children’s hospitals per capita and has one of the lowest death rates for children under 14, highlighting the effectiveness of its pediatric care system.
