BRISTOL, R.I. — State officials refuse to release the Mount Hope Bridge inspection reports and stand by the safety of the nearly 100-year-old Mount Hope Bridge, despite growing questions about its condition.

According to WPRI’s Tim White, the state says the bridge is safe to drive on, but they’re refusing to release the most recent inspection report.

The lack of transparency is raising concerns among drivers and local residents who regularly cross the bridge connecting Bristol and Portsmouth.

Why won’t they share the report? State officials claiming it is classified under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s designation for ‘sensitive security information’.

For now the Mount Hope Bridge inspection remains confidential.
