CRANSTON, R.I. — One of New England’s most iconic pizza names is officially coming to the Ocean State. Sally’s Apizza will open its first Rhode Island restaurant at Garden City Center in Cranston, taking over the former Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza space.
The famed Connecticut-based chain is celebrated for its thin, coal-fired crust and has built a devoted following since first opening in 1938 on Wooster Street in New Haven. Founded by Filomena Consiglio — sister of Frank Pepe of the equally legendary Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana — Sally’s has remained a cornerstone of New Haven’s pizza heritage for more than eight decades.

Over the years the restaurant expanded in with locations in Stamford, Fairfield, and Woburn, Massachusetts. The Cranston opening marks Sally’s latest move in its New England growth plan.
An opening date has not yet been announced, but excitement is already building among local pizza lovers eager to get a taste of the New Haven classic in Rhode Island.
The restaurant had been operated by the Consiglio family for decades before being sold in 2017.
