Trinity Brewhouse, a staple of Providence’s craft beer scene for more than 30 years, will officially change ownership this July. The popular downtown brewpub, known for its house-made beers and chicken wings, was founded in 1994 by Josh Miller, who has remained at the helm since its opening.

The new owners, the team behind Patio on Broadway, plan to preserve the Trinity Brewhouse name, keep much of the longtime staff, and refresh the space while continuing to grow the business.
Josh Miller has been a central figure in Providence’s hospitality industry for decades. He first entered the restaurant business in 1975, becoming the youngest person in the city to hold a liquor license when he purchased the Met Café at just 21 years old. Over the years, he also became a partner in other well-known Providence establishments, including the Hot Club and the former Local 121.
Miller intentionally connected Trinity Brewhouse to the local arts community, naming the brewpub after the nearby Trinity Repertory Theatre, where his mother was one of the original stage managers. Trinity quickly became a neighborhood fixture, drawing in locals with its craft beer selection, comfortable atmosphere, and connection to the downtown arts and entertainment scene.
In addition to his restaurant career, Miller served as a Rhode Island State Senator from 2007 until early 2025. He chaired the Health & Human Services Committee and played a key role in advancing legislation related to healthcare, gun safety, and cannabis reform. His political career came under scrutiny in 2023 after he was caught on camera keying a car that displayed a “Biden Sucks” bumper sticker. The incident led to public backlash and criminal charges, though Miller later issued an apology and entered a court diversion program.
Trinity Brewhouse will continue to operate as usual during the transition, with the new owners expected to officially take over in July.
