WARWICK, R.I. — Warwick has earned a spot at the top of a new national ranking of the safest cities in the United States and city leaders say the recognition reflects years of steady investment and change.
Mayor Frank Picozzi said the ranking comes as no surprise, pointing to long-term efforts to strengthen public safety across the city. During and after the COVID-19 pandemic, Warwick used federal relief funding to modernize police vehicles and fire equipment, part of a broader push to improve emergency response and neighborhood safety.
Picozzi said areas once considered troubled have seen noticeable improvement through consistent policing and economic development, helping restore confidence and pride throughout the community.
The ranking, produced by WalletHub, goes beyond traditional crime statistics. The analysis also considers disaster risk, infrastructure safety, and financial stability, including unemployment, poverty levels, and access to health insurance.
Warwick, Rhode Island’s second-largest city, blends coastal charm with suburban convenience, making it one of the state’s most popular places to live and work. Located along the western shore of Narragansett Bay, Warwick is home to T.F. Green International Airport, major shopping districts, and more than 30 miles of scenic coastline, including popular spots like Conimicut Point and Goddard Memorial State Park. The city has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1642 and today is known for its strong neighborhoods, busy small-business community, and reputation for safety, often earning recognition as one of the safest mid-sized cities in the country.
