PAWTUCKET, R.I. — Fifty-five years ago today the PawSox played their first game at McCoy Stadium on April 24, 1970, as members of the Double-A Eastern League. This debut marked the beginning of a 50-year relationship between the team and the city of Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

The franchise had relocated from Pittsfield, Massachusetts, where it was previously known as the Pittsfield Red Sox. The move to Pawtucket established the team as the Boston Red Sox’s Double-A affiliate.

In 1973, the team transitioned to the Triple-A International League, continuing to play at McCoy Stadium until their relocation to Worcester, Massachusetts, in 2021.
