Matunuck Oyster Bar to reopen this week under massive outdoor tent

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. — Matunuck Oyster Bar is set to welcome guests back this week with a brand new waterfront dining experience under a massive outdoor tent.

We got a sneak peek at the new setup, located across the street from the main restaurant at Matunuck Marina, to the left as you enter. The tented area features two bars—one that appears to be a fully stocked alcohol bar, and another that looks like it’s being set up as a raw bar. The space is filled with plenty of tables and has a lively, open-air vibe with views of the marina.

The restaurant will hold a soft opening on Monday, June 30, and will officially reopen to the public on Tuesday, July 1. Once open, Matunuck Oyster Bar will offer tableside dining from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, along with grab-and-go options.

This temporary outdoor setup comes as the Oyster Bar continues to recover from the devastating fire that damaged the main building in May. Thanks to Rhode Island’s updated “Take It Outside” law, the restaurant can keep serving guests outdoors while the rebuilding process continues.

The Matunuck team says they’re excited to get back to work and bring back the flavors, views, and energy that made the Oyster Bar a beloved Rhode Island destination.

We wish lawmakers would’ve thought of this kind of setup for Harborside and Two Ten Oyster Bar, two other local favorites that were lost to fire in recent years without an outdoor comeback plans like this.
