JAMESTOWN, R.I. — A beached dolphin was discovered Friday afternoon at Fort Getty Park in Jamestown, RI.

Mystic Aquarium’s Sea Life Rescue Unit quickly responded and found the dolphin had fractured vertebrae in its tail—injuries believed to be caused by a boat strike or collision with a large object.

Due to the severity of the injuries, the dolphin had to be humanely euthanized on site.

Marine life has been washing ashore more frequently in Rhode Island lately, keeping rescue teams busy along the coastline.
