PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov has been identified as one of the students killed in Saturday’s shooting at Brown University.
The American Uzbekistan Association described Umurzokov as someone known for his sharp intellect, kind heart, and quiet willingness to help others. Friends and classmates say he carried himself with humility and compassion, leaving a lasting impression on those around him.
According to his roommate, Umurzokov was studying neuroscience and was known for his intelligence, generosity, and joyful presence. “He was just present,” his roommate said. “Whatever you asked him to do, he was always there for you.”
The U.S. Ambassador to Uzbekistan also released a statement, calling his death tragic and mourning the loss of a young life with a bright future.
Brown University continues to grieve the loss of Umurzokov, whose impact is being felt across campus and throughout the Uzbek American community.
The other student killed in the shooting was Ella Cook, a 19-year-old Brown University sophomore from Alabama, remembered by those who knew her as a “bright light.”
