NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. — Police are investigating an incident Friday evening that involved gunfire and a crash near North Kingstown Town Beach.

Around 7:45PM, officers responded to the Park & Ride lot on Boston Neck Road, where at least five shell casing markers were found.

Shortly after, a white SUV with blown-out windows crashed into a pole on Beach Street near the beach entrance. A small section of the beach park was taped off by police as part of the investigation.

An officer was injured during the incident and transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The officer was not shot, but sustained the injuries from the pursuit

While it’s not yet confirmed whether the gunfire and the crash are directly connected, both scenes remain under active investigation. RI State Police, NKPD, and NCIS all responded.
