PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Providence-based luxury handbag brand Lindquist is known for its approach to American-made fashion and ethical manufacturing.

The Rhode Island brand was founded by designer Lindy McDonough in 2020 alongside her husband, Conor MacKean, and production head Kate Gronner. The company operates out of a small Rhode Island factory where each handbag is handmade using vegetable-tanned leather and non-toxic materials.

McDonough’s background in design and craftsmanship is reflected throughout the collection. Lindquist handbags are recognized for their distinct shapes, bold color choices and attention to detail. Many of the bags feature soft circular silhouettes and hand-painted finishes in shades such as mustard and turquoise.

The company uses full-grain Vachetta leather sourced from Brazil and naturally vegetable-tanned without chrome processing. Lindquist also imports premium thread from one of France’s oldest thread manufacturers. Each bag includes hand-finished burnished edges that are carefully sanded and painted by hand.

Lindquist places a strong emphasis on transparency and teamwork during production. Employees across all departments, including customer service and design, also spend time working on the factory floor. Each handbag includes stitched initials from the team members involved in the assembly process, giving customers a direct connection to the people who helped create the final product.

The company focuses on creating durable luxury handbags while maintaining fair wages, healthcare benefits and sustainable production methods for workers. Lindquist emphasizes craftsmanship and long-lasting design instead of fast fashion trends.

The brand has steadily built recognition in fashion circles for its minimalist leather bags and commitment to domestic manufacturing. Lindquist has also been highlighted by fashion publications including Fashionista and InStyle, which praised the company’s timeless designs and Rhode Island-based production model.

Consumer demand for sustainable and responsibly made luxury products has continued to grow in recent years. Many shoppers are increasingly looking for brands that prioritize quality, transparency and ethical production practices.
