The Giant Eyesore Has Left Narragansett Bay

After turning heads—and sparking plenty of complaints—the towering crane ship Thialf has officially left Rhode Island waters.

Standing 473 feet above sea level, the world’s second-largest crane ship dwarfed sailboats and cargo ships as it sat anchored in federal waters off the coast. For a week, it drew both curious onlookers and frustrated locals who called it an eyesore on the bay.

Thialf was in town for safety checks and a crew swap before continuing to New York, where it will play a major role in building an offshore wind project expected to power more than 500,000 homes.

👀 Love it or hate it… did you catch a glimpse?
