SEEKONK, M.A. — A crash late Sunday night has shutdown I-195 Westbound near the Rhode Island state line.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation reports that the highway is closed between Exit 5 and Route 114A in Seekonk. The incident, which occurred shortly before midnight, has caused major backups for drivers heading toward East Providence and Providence.

Motorists caught in the jam say traffic hasn’t moved in over half an hour, and some people have exited their vehicles and are walking along the highway.

Emergency crews are on scene, but details about the crash or possible injuries have not yet been released.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
