EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. — A portion of the East Bay Bike Path has been temporarily closed after a sewage line leak was discovered near the popular waterfront trail.
According to the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM), the closure impacts the section of the bike path between Kettle Point Avenue and the nearby service road in Riverside while crews repair a break in the city’s wastewater collection system. Officials said the closure began Tuesday and is expected to remain in place through at least Friday night.
The City of East Providence requested the temporary shutdown so repair work could safely move forward near the damaged sewer force main pipe.
The East Bay Bike Path stretches roughly 14.5 miles from Providence to Bristol and is one of Rhode Island’s busiest recreational trails, used by cyclists, runners, walkers, and commuters throughout the year. (Wikipedia)
State officials are encouraging residents to avoid the affected section and use alternate access points until repairs are completed.
