PAWTUCKET, R.I. — Investigators say a Good Samaritan rushed in to confront and help stop the gunman during Monday’s deadly shooting inside a Pawtucket ice rink, where a parent opened fire on family members during a high school hockey game.

Authorities said the bystander intervened in the stands moments after the suspect began shooting during the Senior Night matchup at Dennis M. Lynch Arena. The suspected shooter is believed to be Roberta Esposito, 56, a transgender woman whose legal name is Robert K. Dorgan. Dorgan died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene.

Three people, including the gunman, were killed in the shooting, and three additional victims were critically injured.

What’s going on in Rhode Island was first to report the suspected shooter’s identity and key details of the family-related incident as the investigation unfolded. Officials have not publicly identified the Good Samaritan but confirmed investigators are reviewing their actions as part of the timeline.
