Live round of ammunition found at Smithfield elementary school

SMITHFIELD, R.I. — Smithfield Police responded to Pleasant View Elementary School on Pleasant View Avenue around 4:11 p.m. Tuesday after a student discovered a live round of ammunition inside the building.

Police quickly investigated and identified another student who had brought the round from home. Officials confirmed the student has no access to any firearms, and a precautionary K-9 sweep of the school was conducted as an added safety measure.

Authorities determined there is no threat to students or staff, and no criminal charges are being filed in connection with the incident.

The department emphasized the importance of student awareness, encouraging everyone to follow the national safety message: “If you see something, say something.”
