Providence man allegedly stabbed two dogs, one fatally

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — A 26-year-old Providence man is facing multiple criminal charges after police say he stabbed his brother’s two dogs during a violent incident outside a home on Carleton Street.

According to investigators, officers responded to the residence on June 14 after receiving a report involving animals. Police said two dogs had been involved in a fight with two smaller dogs. After the animals were separated, an argument reportedly broke out between the suspect and his brother.

Investigators say the suspect, identified as Charles Deluca, then went inside the home, retrieved a pocket knife, and returned outside, where he allegedly stabbed his brother’s two dogs. Both animals were rushed to an emergency veterinary hospital. One of the dogs later died from its injuries, while the other survived and was treated.

Police also said a woman at the scene feared for her safety after Deluca allegedly swung the knife in her direction during the incident.

Deluca was taken into custody and charged with two counts of malicious injury to or killing of animals, one count of felony assault, and one count of domestic disorderly conduct. He was released on $10,000 surety bail, issued a no-contact order, and is scheduled to appear back in court in September.
