PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Providence police are investigating a stabbing that unfolded Friday afternoon near a playground in the city’s West End neighborhood, also known as the Historic Armory District.
Officers and emergency crews were called to the area of Messer Street near Conlan Junior Memorial Park just before 3 p.m. After arriving, they found a 32-year-old man suffering from stab wounds to his abdomen and left arm.
The victim was treated at the scene before being taken to a local hospital. His current condition has not been released.
Police said a 37-year-old man was taken into custody in connection with the incident. Authorities have not yet said what led to the stabbing.
Witnesses reported a large emergency response in the area, and one person was seen being loaded into an ambulance on a stretcher.
The investigation remains active, and additional information is expected as police continue to gather details.
