RICHMOND, R.I. — A 54-year-old Richmond man has been sentenced to 13 years in prison after pleading no contest to two counts of first-degree child molestation, according to the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office.
On Monday, September 21, Washington County Superior Court Justice Kristin E. Rodgers imposed a 30-year sentence on Mitchell, including 13 years to be served at the Adult Correctional Institutions (ACI). The balance of the sentence was suspended, with probation to follow.
The court also issued a no-contact order between Mitchell and the victim.
As part of the sentence, Mitchell must register as a sex offender and complete sex offender counseling. He will also be subject to community notification, lifetime community supervision and lifetime GPS monitoring.
Rhode Island Attorney General Peter F. Neronha said the victim showed courage by coming forward and that the sentence reflects the seriousness of the offenses.
Neronha also thanked the Richmond Police Department for its assistance with the case.
