WEST WARWICK, R.I. — Police say a viral video showing a person walking through West Warwick in a white robe and pointed hood, clothing associated with the Ku Klux Klan (KKK), was staged to gain attention on social media.
The video, which circulated widely online, showed an individual walking along Main Street in the early morning hours. It was recorded around 2 a.m. and also captured on local surveillance cameras, including footage from a nearby business.
The footage quickly raised concerns among residents and drew strong reactions on social media.
After investigating, police determined the incident was not connected to any organized group. Instead, authorities said it was planned by two brothers and intended to draw attention rather than pose a broader threat.
According to police, both individuals admitted their involvement and provided evidence confirming they were solely responsible. Investigators also said the brothers denied any affiliation with hate groups.
No charges were filed, and the investigation has been closed.
