WOONSOCKET, R.I. — Police are investigating a deadly shooting that left three people dead inside a Rathbun Street apartment Monday night.

Officers were called to 411 Rathbun Street just before 7 p.m. after reports of gunfire echoed through the neighborhood. When they arrived, they found three people suffering from gunshot wounds inside a second-floor apartment.

According to Deputy Chief Adam Remick, two of the victims were taken to Landmark Medical Center, where they were later pronounced dead. The third victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

A witness who managed to escape the apartment before police arrived was able to call for help, authorities said. Investigators recovered a firearm inside the residence and believe everyone involved was inside the apartment at the time of the shooting.

“It was determined that the incident involved only the parties in the residence and there is no threat to the community,” Remick said in a statement.

Detectives are still piecing together what led up to the violence and believe one of the deceased individuals may have been the shooter.

No names have been released as the investigation continues.
