PROVIDENCE, R.I. — A week after Rhode Island voters went to the polls, the 2026 Republican primary winner for governor has officially been decided.
The Rhode Island Board of Elections has certified Aaron Guckian as the 2026 Republican nominee for governor after a close race against Elaine Pelino.
Guckian finished 259 votes ahead of Pelino. Following Pelino’s request for a recount, election officials conducted a rereading of the election-night memory devices before certifying the results.
With the Republican primary now settled, Guckian will move on to the November 3 general election. The race for governor will include Democratic nominee Helena Foulkes, Republican nominee Aaron Guckian and independent candidates Ken Block, Jasjit “Jay” Gotra and Christopher “CD” Reynolds.
