PROVIDENCE, R.I. — A Massachusetts man wanted in connection with a kidnapping in Boston was arrested in Rhode Island over the weekend, according to Rhode Island State Police.
Authorities said Massachusetts State Police notified Rhode Island police about a vehicle believed to be connected to the Boston case. The vehicle was later detected by a Flock camera on Interstate 95 in Providence.
Police eventually stopped the vehicle on New London Turnpike in East Greenwich, where Ysael Lara Gonzalez, 27, of Lawrence, Massachusetts, was taken into custody.
Lara Gonzalez faces several charges in Massachusetts, including domestic kidnapping, domestic felony assault, disorderly conduct and two counts of possessing prohibited weapons other than firearms, state police said.
Boston police said the kidnapping occurred Saturday but have not released additional details about the circumstances of the incident.
Lara Gonzalez appeared in Rhode Island court Monday on a fugitive from justice charge. He is being held on kidnapping and aggravated assault charges out of Boston.
According to state police, he did not waive extradition to Massachusetts.
A special review is scheduled for next week, when Lara Gonzalez is expected to have an opportunity to speak with a public defender before further extradition proceedings.
