WARWICK, R.I. — An alleged attempt to set fire to the popular Captain’s Resto-Bar in Warwick has led to the arrest of 47-year-old Brian Fisher following a police investigation.
According to Warwick police, officers responded to restaurant located on Waterfront Drive at approximately 1:15 a.m. on July 1 after the restaurant’s owner reported seeing a suspicious person outside the business. The owner told investigators he was performing maintenance on the building’s rooftop HVAC system when he spotted a person with a white trash bag covering his face allegedly pouring gasoline along a fence near the restaurant.
Police said the suspect then appeared to reach into his pocket, possibly for a lighter, before the owner shouted at him. The individual fled the area before a fire could be started.
During the investigation, officers recovered a trash bag that allegedly contained a palm print linked to Fisher. Later that day, one of Fisher’s roommates contacted police after discovering scorched carpeting, burn marks, and charred paper inside their home. Investigators also learned that a red gasoline container reported missing from the residence matched one recovered near the restaurant.
Police said Fisher worked for Safe Harbor Marina, the company that owns the property where Captain’s Resto-Bar operates. Investigators also learned he reportedly left work early on July 1 after concerns were raised about his behavior the previous day.
Fisher was arrested on Monday and held overnight before being arraigned Tuesday in Third District Court. He did not enter a plea, and a judge set bail at $10,000 with surety. Police believe he acted alone and described the incident as an isolated incident.
Fisher is scheduled to return to court on September 28 for a screening.
