The popular chicken wing chain, Wingstop, is opening a brand-new location at 1501 Atwood Avenue, with construction currently underway. A worker on site told us the building should be finished by the end of September, and they’re aiming for an October opening.

JOHNSTON, R.I. — This marks Wingstop’s first-ever location in the Ocean State. Known for its classic and boneless wings, hand-cut seasoned fries, and bold flavors like Lemon Pepper, Mango Habanero, and Garlic Parmesan, Wingstop has built a loyal fanbase across the country.

Founded in Texas in 1994, the brand now has over 2,500 locations worldwide — including more than 2,200 in the U.S. Currently, the closest Wingstop restaurants are in Massachusetts, with the nearest in Brockton.

This marks the second major food chain to open in Johnston in just over a year. In January 2024, Raising Cane’s made its debut along Atwood Avenue.

And Johnston won’t be the only one. Another Wingstop is also in the works in East Providence, with details expected to be announced soon.

Get ready, Rhode Island, wings are coming.
