Cranston police respond to reports of gunfire at Garden City

CRANSTON, R.I. — Cranston police responded to reports of gunfire at Garden City late Wednesday morning.

According to Cranston Police Chief Col. Michael Winquist, a man was shot at while exiting the gym shortly before noon, though he was not struck by any bullets. Winquist said the shooting appears to have been a targeted attack.

The crime scene was located outside the Verizon store and LA Fitness.

Rhode Island State Police later spotted a suspect vehicle on I-95 and proceeded to follow it into the parking garage at Providence Place Mall. Authorities report three individuals were taken into custody and a firearm was recovered.
