JOHNSTON, RI — More than a dozen people, the majority from the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT), accompanied by State Rep. Fascia (R-Dist. 42, Cranston, Johnston), gathered at St. Rocco’s School in Johnston this morning to inspect the crosswalk and discuss potential safety improvements.
The goal is to make crossing the street safer for students traveling to and from school.
Student safety is certainly an important issue, especially in such a busy area. However, with more than a dozen people on site, including numerous RIDOT employees, it raises the question: How many people does it take to inspect a crosswalk, and is this the most efficient use of taxpayer dollars?
Meanwhile, the Washington Bridge connecting Providence and East Providence continues to be a major headache for commuters. We only wish the same level of attention and effort could be directed toward resolving that ongoing transportation nightmare.
