WOONSOCKET, R.I. — A man reported missing earlier this month has been identified as the person whose body was recovered from the Blackstone River in Woonsocket on Wednesday.

Police identified the man as Efrain A. Espinosa, 28, of Woonsocket.

Espinosa had been the subject of a missing person report filed August 1. According to police, family members had last encountered him around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, when he reportedly ran away from them.

The search ended Wednesday afternoon when authorities discovered Espinosa’s body in the Blackstone River near the South Main Street Bridge. Emergency crews responded to the area around 12:30 p.m. and recovered a dead body from the water.

Investigators said they have not uncovered evidence indicating that foul play was involved or that Espinosa’s death occurred under suspicious circumstances.

Additional information about the cause and manner of his death has not been released.
