In recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, a new statewide event will bring awareness and conversation to college campuses across Rhode Island.
On April 17, organizers will launch One Day for Day One 2026, the first statewide college music festival focused on raising awareness about sexual violence. The event will use music, student participation, and open discussion to encourage conversations about prevention, survivor support, and safer campus communities.
Unlike traditional festivals, the event will not take place at just one location. Instead, several Rhode Island colleges will host activities at the same time. Each campus will act as its own “stage” in the larger statewide event.
Participating schools currently include the University of Rhode Island, Johnson & Wales University, Rhode Island School of Design, Rhode Island College, and Brown University. Organizers are also exploring the possibility of including Salve Regina University.
Throughout the day, campuses will host live music, student programs, educational discussions, and awareness activities. These events are designed to support survivors and promote prevention efforts.
Organizers say the goal is to bring students, faculty, advocates, and community groups together. The event aims to highlight the impact of sexual violence and ensure survivors know where to find help.
One Day for Day One is expected to become an annual event. Organizers hope it will inspire students to take an active role in building safer campus environments across Rhode Island.
