PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Al Fresco on the Hill will return to Federal Hill June 13, bringing outdoor dining back to Federal Hill, though questions remain about the long-term future of the popular seasonal event.
The Providence Board of Licenses recently approved the event for the month of June and is expected to later discuss whether it will continue beyond that timeframe. The annual attraction has become a popular summer tradition, allowing restaurants and businesses to expand dining and activities outdoors along Federal Hill.
To accommodate the extended outdoor seating, Atwells Avenue will be closed from Dean Street to Acorn Street during the event. The street closures will take place on Saturdays throughout the program.
Many business owners have pointed to Al Fresco on the Hill as a way to increase foot traffic and bring more visitors to the neighborhood, while others have recently raised concerns about accessibility, traffic flow and how road closures affect day-to-day operations.
The event features participating restaurants and businesses along Atwells Avenue, giving visitors an opportunity to enjoy outdoor dining and entertainment in one of Providence’s most recognizable neighborhoods.
