Providence, RI: The Providence City Council is inviting the public to a Palestinian flag-raising ceremony outside City Hall on Friday, May 16, at noon.

The Council announced the event on X (formerly Twitter), writing:
“You’re invited to a Palestinian flag raising at City Hall this Friday, May 16! Elected officials and community members will deliver remarks on the steps out front at 12 pm. Join us!”

The flag is already displayed inside the City Council Chamber, positioned beside the Council dais.

Now, with Mayor Brett Smiley’s approval, the Palestinian flag will be flown atop City Hall — making Providence one of the first American cities to do so.
