PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Providence Rugby Football Club is making history this weekend as both its men’s and women’s+ teams head to the Atlantic Super Regionals in Buffalo.
It marks the first time in the club’s history that both teams have won their respective regional titles and advanced to the tournament together.
While rugby continues to grow globally, the sport has long been part of Rhode Island’s culture. Providence Rugby Football Club, founded in 1969, has been a cornerstone of that tradition for more than 50 years. The women’s+ program was added in 2004 and is now celebrating more than two decades of competition.
The club has built a strong track record in recent years. The men’s team captured Division 3 regional titles in 2022 and 2025 and recently won the Rhode Island Cup. The women’s+ team has also found success, including a regional championship in 2022 along with multiple strong finishes over the years.
Now, both teams will compete on a larger stage as they represent Rhode Island at the Atlantic Super Regionals, one of the top competitions in club rugby.
