LINCOLN, R.I. —Part of Route 146 was closed overnight after a construction truck hit the Breakneck Hill Road bridge during paving work.

Officials said the crash occurred around 11:15 p.m., when the truck struck the underside of the overpass, prompting an immediate inspection.

State police said the vehicle had just unloaded material south of Breakneck Hill Road and was traveling north when its raised dump body hit the bridge.

The truck was being operated by A. Furtado’s Paving, an East Providence-based company subcontracted by RIDOT on a Route 146 paving project. It was later towed from the scene to undergo an inspection.

Crews examined the bridge and determined the damage was minor and did not pose a threat to traffic.

Northbound lanes remained closed for several hours while the area was cleared, reopening shortly after 2:00 a.m.
