WARWICK, R.I. — World Cup excitement has arrived in Rhode Island as the Ghana National Football Team officially touched down Thursday evening at T.F. Green International Airport.

The Ghana Football Association selected Providence as its Team Base Camp for the tournament, with Bryant University serving as the team’s official training site throughout its stay in the Ocean State.

The Black Stars are making their fifth appearance on soccer’s biggest stage and will use Bryant University’s facilities to prepare for group-stage competition.

Ghana will compete in Group L and open tournament play against Panama on June 17 in Toronto. The team will then face England on June 23 in Boston before concluding group play against Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.

Rhode Island soccer fans will have a unique opportunity to welcome one of Africa’s most successful national teams as Ghana prepares for another World Cup campaign.
