Westerly man claims Bigfoot sighting in Connecticut

A Rhode Island man’s alleged Bigfoot sighting in Connecticut is drawing attention after he reported coming face to face with what he believes was the legendary creature during a late-night drive.

Kevin Klimas, of Westerly, said the Bigfoot sighting happened around 1:45 a.m. on July 5 as he was leaving a rental cabin in Voluntown, just outside Pachaug State Forest.

According to Klimas, an approximately 8½-foot-tall creature covered in coarse brown hair suddenly crossed Wylie School Road in front of his vehicle. He said he slammed on the brakes as the upright figure crossed the road in just two strides before disappearing into the woods.

Klimas described the creature as having broad shoulders, unusually long arms that reached nearly to its knees, and a cone-shaped head. He said he is certain it was not a bear and believes he witnessed something extraordinary.

After the encounter, Klimas submitted a report to the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO). The organization later sent investigators to interview him and examine the location.

The BFRO classified the report as a Class A sighting, meaning investigators believe Klimas sincerely reported what he saw. However, the classification reflects the organization’s assessment of the witness and is not scientific evidence that Bigfoot exists.

The alleged Bigfoot sighting occurred near the 26,000-acre Pachaug State Forest, an area that has been linked to several other reported Bigfoot encounters over the years.

Investigators said they did not find any footprints because the forest floor was covered with thick layers of pine needles.

Whether you believe in Bigfoot or remain skeptical, the reported Bigfoot sighting has sparked plenty of conversation on both sides of the Rhode Island and Connecticut border.
