EXETER, R.I. — Yawgoo Valley announced that its longtime water park will not reopen, marking the end of one of Rhode Island’s few seasonal water attractions.
The announcement was posted on the business’s website, where officials thanked customers for years of support and confirmed the water park portion of the property would remain closed moving forward.
Ski area will continue operating
While the water park is shutting down, Yawgoo said the rest of the property will continue to operate, including its ski area, snow tubing, and other seasonal activities.
Located in Exeter, Yawgoo Valley is Rhode Island’s only operating ski area and has been a longtime destination for winter recreation in the state since it first opened in the 1965-66 season.
The ski area features 36 acres of skiable terrain with 100% snowmaking coverage. It also offers night skiing on all trails, with its longest run stretching approximately 2,200 feet. Guests are served by two double chair lifts and two rope tows.
End of a longtime summer attraction
Yawgoo’s water park featured waterslides, pools, and family attractions during the summer months and had operated alongside the ski area for years.
The owners cited rising operational costs and long-term planning considerations behind the decision.
For many Rhode Islanders, the announcement marks the loss of another longtime local attraction, adding to the shrinking number of water parks and amusement destinations in the area.
