CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. — The City of Central Falls has officially welcomed its first-ever comfort dog, marking a new step in community outreach and emotional support efforts within the police department.
City leaders and police officers gathered for the swearing-in ceremony, introducing Hope, a Labrador addition that will help provide comfort during stressful situations, support community events, and strengthen connections between officers and residents.
Comfort dogs are increasingly being used by police departments and schools across Rhode Island to help ease anxiety, assist during crisis situations, and build trust within communities. Similar programs have recently launched in communities including West Warwick and Tiverton.
Officials said the dog will participate in school visits, public events, and community engagement efforts throughout Central Falls.
The program reflects a growing trend among local agencies using trained comfort and therapy dogs to promote mental wellness and positive community interactions.
Hope completed her training through HCC K-9 Dog Training in Cumberland, whose team also donated the equipment and services needed to prepare her for the role.
